Why Are Plastic Water Bottles a Bad Idea?

It’s true—plastic water bottles are a bad idea all the way around. Even though the FDA has put a stamp of approval on drinking out of plastic water bottles, that doesn’t mean they are entirely safe—for humans or the environment, especially if you reuse them.

That you should never do!

Why Should You Not Reuse Water Bottles?

It’s tempting, we know. You think you’re doing something good for the environment by reusing water bottles a few or more times. You might be using fewer bottles but the harm you do to your health is not worth it. Better not to use them at all.

If you must use them in certain circumstances, the reason you should throw away the plastic water bottles after a single use is that harmful bacteria grow in the crevasses. First, use a bottlebrush to scrub. Wash with very hot, soapy water, and then after a second use, discard the bottle.

Are Plastic Bottles Sustainable?

Regardless of information circulating on the Internet, plastic water bottles are NOT sustainable. Vast quantities of fossil fuels and water are used to manufacture, fill, and ship plastic water bottles around the world.

That’s okay because they are biodegradable, right?

Depends on how long you plan to stick around. The plastic water bottle you guzzle down in a few minutes can stick around for a thousand years.

Sustainable? Not.

Instead of plastic, try the purifyou® reusable glass water bottle. It’s entirely BPA free, Phthalate free, PVC free, lead free, cadmium free and worry free.

Why Can’t I just use an Old Pickle Jar?

Not all glass is created equal! The glass of purifyou® products is unique in that it’s made from high borosilicate glass, which is more heat resistant than any other commonly used glass. It is the most durable glass in consumer retail. Even other glass bottles on the market can’t match up.

A portion of our profits will be go to the construction of wells in impoverished communities around the world. You’ll be making a contribution with every purchase, and a little contribution can go a long way.
